FAQ's

How does Homeopathy differ from Naturopathy?

Both these disciplines are commonly confused as they are both considered ’natural’ therapies. A homeopath specialises completely in the therapeutic benefits of  homeopathy  while a naturopath will use several different modalities to bring about change on the physical level such as vitamin supplement and herbs.  Homeopathy as a holistic medicine is unsurpassed in my opinion as it deliberately addresses the core essence of the dis-ease on whatever level that occurs for a person. While you may prescribe a remedy for a sore toe, not uncommonly you will find a patient reports improved energy and vitality as well as resolution of other symptoms not mentioned before.

Will a homeopathic remedy interfere with the conventional medicine I’m taking?

No. in fact, homeopathy works very collaboratively alongside any long term medications you may need to continue. Your homeopath can liaise with your GP to keep them informed of your treatment and progress as you may find you need less of your conventional medications (like pain killers) as you improve with homeopathy.

What are the homeopathic remedies made of?

There are over 300 remedies available to us to harness their therapeutic properties. The substances can originate from plant sources like the common daisy (Bellis Perennis) , mineral sources like gold (Aurum) and Silica or from the reptile, insect and sea kingdoms (Lachesis, Apis and Sepia). Please refer to the appropriate sub-section of what is homeopathy? for examples of some of the remedies and their common uses.

How should I take and store homeopathic remedies?

Homeopathic remedies come in various forms from little pillules to tablets or as a liquid to drop on the tongue. I will always give detailed instructions of how to handle and store the remedy with your first prescription. It is best to handle the remedy as little as possible so use a spoon to remove them from the remedy envelope. If in a little bottle, you can tip the remedy into the lid and then dispense into your mouth without ever having touched it.

It is best to be 15 mins either side of eating, drinking or brushing your teeth when taking the remedy and avoid the use of strong camphor infused products as they can potentially antidote the action of the remedy. Limit the use of caffeine laced drinks like coffee and cola too.

You may be instructed to only take one or two doses of your prescription remedy which is totally unlike how conventional medicine  is taken so you will have to adjust to a new regime where your body dictates when the remedy needs repeating. As you gain confidence in homeopathy, you will become more proficient at knowing when to treat. My job as your homeopath is assist you in achieving that level of confidence.

Remedies should be stored in a cool, dry place away from any strong smells. Ideally keep them with your first aid kit and other medicines so you begin to associate homeopathy as your first course of action in illness.

What are the different numbers  beside the remedy name on the envelope?

This denotes the potency or dose/strength of the remedy. For example, if you went prescribed Arnica 30c this means you will take Arnica in the 30th centesimal dose. This simply describes the number of dilutions and succussion’s the remedy has been through to arrive at its current strength.

Is homeopathy safe to use in pregnancy?

Yes - extremely safe. Homeopathic medicines are non-toxic and do not cross the placental barrier  or the blood/brain barrier (in the traditional sense). The remedy will have a holistic effect for the baby in utero because it is synergistically and energetically connected to its mother. It cannot harm your unborn baby and serves only to restore order and balance to mum as her body adapts to the mental, emotional and physical demands of pregnancy.
